Understanding Accreditation


Systems certification/registration is third-party verification that an organization is operating in accordance with requirements set by a national or international management system standard.

These standards are globally recognized frameworks from which business policies and procedures are modeled. They are focused on operational excellence, customer requirements, quality control, and are drivers of continual improvement based on the Plan-Do-Check-Act Model.

With such focuses, businesses can realize both internal and external benefits of certification. Achieving certification through an accredited certification body (previously known as a registrar) is important because it gives formal recognition that the certifying body has been verified as impartial, competent, and equipped to provide assurance. This fosters confidence and acceptance by end-users in the public and private sectors of a certification body’s accredited certifications.
