WHO WE ARE

Independent Association of Accredited Registrars (IAAR) promotes accredited management system certification, working with industry groups, government agencies and other organizations to provide guidance on the appropriate use of international standards, the accreditation and certification process, and reliance on accredited certification bodies to determine whether organizations comply with various international and US standards.

IAAR members’ clients represent nearly all service and industry sectors with sizes ranging from a handful of employees to multinational corporations. These clients benefit from accredited certification to quality, environmental, and health and safety management system standards such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001, AS9100, ISO 27001, ISO 13485, ISO 22000 and many others.

OUR HISTORY

IAAR was established in 1992 with 12 members.  Affectionately known as “The Dirty Dozen”, the original members were: ABS, BSI, BVQI, DNV, KEMA, LRQA, QMI, QSR, SQA, SRI, TRA and UL.  

The first President of IAAR was Marty Courtois from QSR.  Other past presidents include: Lane Hallenbeck (ABS), currently the Executive Director ANAB; Greg Swan (BVQI), currently of Greg Swan Associates; and Pierre Salle (KEMA acquired by DEKRA), currently IAAR Representative to IAF.  

Since 1992 our membership has grown and IAAR members now dominates the market with members’ clients holding over 90% of the accredited certificates in North America. IAAR also works closely with North American accreditation bodies and the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) to provide our membership with the latest information and the opportunity for members to participate at the highest levels.
